After the huge success of The Lego Movie in 2014, I knew we wouldn’t have to wait long for another film. The Lego Batman Movie was released Friday and I headed to my local theater to check it out...and I thought it was a lot of fun!
Will Arnett reprises his role as the caped crusader and his voice work as Batman is dead on. Plenty of jokes for all ages and some really great references to the movies of the past...even a few little jokes about the original TV show sneak in.
Batman is joins up with Robin (Michael Cera) and Barbara Gordon (Rosario Dawson). Alfred (Ralph Fiennes) gets in on the action as well and they are up against the Joker (Zach Galifianakis) and some of the biggest villains of the cinema. It’s fun to see which villains appear from other movies, but I think one of the down sides is that most of the classic Batman villains are pushed into the background.
What I liked the most about this film was the family message it gives as Batman struggles with his solitary life and his fear of having and losing a family. It sound really deep, but of course it’s told in the same fun Lego manner as The Lego Movie originally did.
I highly recommend this movie for all ages. Lots of laughs and it’s action packed.
